Regarding when and how we will start

Due to the pandemic, the LSC has moved its summer school online, which includes band and orchestra.  Although 7th and 8th grade band and orchestra students will be offered an online program, we have agreed that we need to wait to start our beginners (the incoming 6thgraders) in a hands-on, in-person setting.  For that reason, we will not be meeting during the months of May and June for the summer program.  Instead, we are hopeful that we will be able to hold a short, two-week program in person prior to the start of the school year.  We are unable to set definite dates and times yet, and the summer bus schedule may or may not be able to be the same as previously advertised.  However, we will keep you informed as we near the program and as details unfold.  Students who are unable to attend the summer program will start band class or orchestra class when the school year begins.

Regarding Choir Eligibility

For students who have chosen to take both instrument and choir classes during the school year, the requirement that they attend the summer program will not be enforced this year.  It is highly recommended that those students attend the summer program if they are able, and it will be even more important for students with both classes to work hard to keep up during the school year.  However, we do not feel comfortable enforcing the requirement in light of the unforeseen changes.

Regarding Supplies

Many of you have already ordered supplies and made arrangements for an instrument when you visited Sunnyside on sign-up night.  For those of you who have set reminders to yourself to order the supplies and instrument in May, you can reset that reminder to alert you at the start of July.  All supplies that have already been ordered will be delivered to the school in time for the start of the program.

Regarding Instruments

  • All Q&F instrument rent-to-purchase programs will not begin until the instruments are delivered to the school at the start of the program.  You will not be billed until your child is using the instrument.
  • All TAF applications have been submitted to the Tippecanoe Arts Federation, and we will be working with them to have those instruments delivered to the school and ready for use by the start of the program.
  • All LSC rental instruments will be ready at the start of the program as well.

Regarding Safety

All instruments will have been quarantined, repaired or maintained and sanitized, and quarantined again before the start of the program.

Mr. Mui and I will be reaching out to individual families as needed to make sure that everything is ready to go for the start, whenever that may be.  And, as always, feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns you may have.
